{ ABOUT ME & THIS SITE }
In 2003, I was working as a copywriter at my third (and final) dot-com. It was pretty boring stuff, but honestly, it paid a lot more than most of the journalism jobs out there. (I graduated from journalism school a few years prior.)
I needed a creative writing outlet. Hence, this blog was born.
I eventually left the copywriting world and took a job at a financial firm. As I became further removed from journalism, the fear that I would never be able to work as a writer covering topics that I actually enjoyed kept me up at night.
One day, while sitting in my cubicle, I decided to email the SF Chronicle. I pitched a handful of story ideas and they liked one of them. I wrote it, they published it, and thankfully, the assignments kept coming. (Once upon a time, I was also a regular contributor to Apartment Therapy.)
I still have a day job; gotta pay for that mortgage and shoe habit. But it's now balanced out by freelance writing that I absolutely love. And I continue to blog here as often as the inspiration strikes.
The best way to get to know me better is to just read some of the posts on this site. No time for such nonsense?
Here's a quick overview:
- I live in the SF Bay Area in the Peninsula (south of San Francisco, north of San Jose).
- In addition to my freelance writing, I dabble in jewelry-making. (Adorna Bella carries my one-of-a-kind pieces.)
- My oldest sister is my best friend.
- I didn't get my passport until I got married. (We went to Europe for our honeymoon.) Now I'm hooked and travel as often as our budget and work schedules allow.
- I met my husband while we were both working at the now-defunct Petstore.com. I was an associate editor; he was a marketing guy.
- Our house has two things I've always wanted in a house: a walk-in closet and a laundry room. I may never move again.
- My DVD collection consists of three movies: "Goonies," "So I Married An Axe Murderer" and "Better Off Dead."
