The Weekend

And I thought I ate well during my recent vacation! Well, since returning home, the whirlwind of deliciousness has continued — with visits to Range, Bi-Rite Creamery, Rick & Ann's, Bakesale Betty, Genova Deli and Tamarine.

Jon and I made a trip to the 5-1-0 this weekend, staying at the Claremont. I had every intention of writing up the place for Girls Guide to City Life, but you know what? As grand and beautiful as the building and grounds are, our room itself was just so-so. I guess it's a bit typical of your old, historic hotels.

Driving around Berkeley and Oakland, however, I realized how much I miss the area. We lived in the Rockridge neighborhood for about a year — until the termites and mice just became too much for me to bear and we fled to the other side of the bay. Now that we're in the Peninsula, we don't make it over to the East Bay nearly as much as I'd like. (Jon did make the effort last weekend, when he and three friends went to the Giants/A's game, sitting in the FIRST ROW, directly behind home plate. If you watched the game on TV, chances are, you saw them every time the camera was on the batter.)

I find myself driving up to San Francisco at least once a week, but need to add Berkeley/Oakland into my regular rotation as well. The banana bread at Bakesale Betty alone is worth the trek.
