Back in the Day
The last few days have felt like a bit of a time warp. Let me explain:
- I bought a suit something I hadn't done since the late '90s. I needed them way back when I was in law school. However, with closet space at a premium in our old house, I must've donated them away at some point.
When my company announced that it would be shutting down, I looked in my closet and realized that I didn't own a single suit, but I could probably use one for any potential job interviews. Banana Republic was having a sale on workwear earlier this week, so I decided it was a sign that I should order a new suit. Um, but the last time I purchased a suit, this thing called a "size 00" didn't exist. Who determined that it should?
- Last night, I enjoyed a fantastic dinner at the Slanted Door with a friend I hadn't seen in over 13 years. THIRTEEN! (And I can't even remember the last time I got free glasses of wine from a bartender.)
- I popped into Carrots yesterday and half of the store was on sale. And not just a little bit on sale 75% off. No, that is not a typo. SEVEN-FIVE. I couldn't pass up a pair of K-Swisses designed by Yigal Azrouel. I haven't worn K-Swisses since George H.W. Bush was in office.
- And this weekend, I'm going to head over to the public library and get myself a library card. If you don't count the use of college libraries, I haven't checked out a book from a library since I was, well, wearing K-Swisses.

hooray! I'm a public librarian and I'd like to say welcome back! Two decorating books I just found at our library today in the new books section: Regency Redux and To Your Taste.

Public libraries are the best thing ever! I just rediscovered them within the last year, and have decided I have no excuse for being such an idiot and helping the big chains put mom&pop book stores out of business because they offered cheaper prices when I can go to a library and get the same book for FREE!
And I am completely with you on "00" - it is simply wrong.

Virginia - I hope my library carries both of those books as well. They look awesome!
Heidi - I've been eating at SD since they opened on Valencia and it remains one of my favorites. I don't think it's possible to have anything but a stellar meal there!
Emma James - I realized that I buy so many books that I only flip through a handful of times. And then they're just taking up space in my house. No more!
