Good Buys

While most of our furniture purchases follow much deliberation, there are a couple of spontaneous buys in our house that I really love. Such as the "Boomerang" chaise by Romani e Saccani that we bought at DWR right before we moved into our first house (it was discontinued, so was on sale):

And most recently, we picked up this vintage bench that was used in a school gym in London:

The bench isn't very deep — less than 12" — so it fits perfectly in our entry area. I just can't decide whether or not to add cushions to it. Oh, and I also can't decide what to hang on the walls behind the chaise in the living room.

Very cool. both pics. I love the vintage artwork above the bench; I would think a cushion (long, one piece) would be nice for the bench, maybe textural solid color (linen or burlap) with a patterned piping would be nice. you could also do individual pillow type cushions but not as functional.

Love everything; sepia photography would be great over the chaise; to accent the sexiness of its shape.

Oooh -- I love the throw at the foot of your chaise. Where's that from?

Thanks, Jana! I hadn't thought to use a patterned fabric for a cushion piping. Love that idea.

Leah - The throw is from Barneys. I had my eye on it for over a year and finally decided that I had to have it.

I love the kartell gnome! The chaise is lovely as well...I would have made an impulse buy!

LOVE that bench!!! I say leave it cushion-free.

I agree with the previous post, leave the bench cushion-free. It's so beautiful as it is.

I vote for no cushions. I LOVE that bench. Beautiful stuff all around!

Love the bench cushion-free. Where did you get the bench? I want one.

Love the bench! PLEASE leave it cushion-free!

I have to say that I would leave it cushion free as well. It would cover up all the beauty of the detail. Awesome find!!

I love both of those spots! The gnome looks so great next to the chaise. Where did you get the bench? And the painting above it?

Thanks so much for the feedback! The bench is actually from a local Anthropologie. Since each store's vintage selection varies, I'm not sure if something similar is available in other locations.

And the painting is from an art gallery in Vietnam. We consider it our first real art purchase.

Both of those pieces are very very cool!

I love the bench without cushions. The wood is just fantastic. Great find!

what fantastic finds. I love being able to see the wood on the bench.

I love the gnome!! I have two of them - sit on them and put books and drinks on them. What a nice site! I also just discovered Apartment Therapy and Hygge & West, and all sorts of great blogs, Decor8blog being one of them.
My daughter goes to CCA and is majoring in illustration so I come to the area at least once a year. I'm going to have to try some of those dougnuts...

Though not quite the same style the bench makes me yearn for the carved wooden bench we had in Suriname. I would love it now, elegantly displayed in its own corner. Like this one it would be shy and subtle yet quietly steal all the attention.
