Someday, maybe I'll be able to afford to shop on 1stdibs. In the meantime, I'm perfectly happy visiting the site to browse and check out the content. There's a lot of really good stuff there. I especially like the "Style Compass" feature.

i love 1st dibs, but i use it more for education and research. i do admit to a wishlist.
i can't tell you how many times i've seen an item on ebay, only to see it on 1st dibs 2-8 weeks later.
i've been outbid by major dealers on each coast and thus my successful bids are, in their own ways, sweeter.
it's great to see someone selling the dining table, that you picked up in the mission on the cheap, for $8500 in los angeles, or your $25 alameda flea market lamp for $1500.
