In Progress: The Guest Bedroom

Last month, I mentioned that I was working on the guest bedroom and was giving myself a mid-November deadline to complete the space. While most of the pieces are in place, I think the bed side of the room still needs some work:

I'm just not sure yet what it needs exactly. Maybe a patterned wallpaper in a neutral color. Or new lamps to provide another jolt of color. Perhaps paint that isn't so beige. Hmmm. (We're not making any further changes to the furniture or bedding.)

I also like the idea of wallpapering the ceiling. In this month's issue of House&Home, there's an article on a guest bedroom makeover which includes covering the ceiling in Osborne & Little's Coronata Star. I don't see the story online, but it's the same wallpaper used in this old photo from Domino.

I don't think I'd want to wallpaper the ceiling myself, so I'd have to factor that extra cost into the decision as well.

Have you considered a gold paint color for the walls? That would match your bedding and should reflect natural light from the window.

Hi Chris - Thanks for the suggestion! I hadn't thought about that. Although one of the wallpaper patterns I'm looking at has some gold in it.

I think just painting the room white, instead of leaving it beige, would make a huge difference.

What other wallpapers are you considering?

Judith - Osborne & Little's Asuka is a frontrunner right now.

What about painting the wall behind the bed a darker color, like a darker brown or a dark blue and then finding 2 larger lamps to really anchor that wall? Overall I love what you're doing and get bonus points for sticking with it. I keep starting and stopping projects!

ok one more thing: maybe shiny on the lamps for some reflectivity and also I am a huge fan of wallpapering the ceiling. We've done it on a couple of projects and they've turned out great. Take a look at Romo Wallpapers for metallic geometric patterns.

I suggest aqua/teal/turquoise ribbon on the lampshades.
